Under: Pre-Trip
I realize that this is pre-mature of our big adventure, but as I've never been one to be good at keeping a journal or keeping up with technology, I figured it would be best if I started out early and developed a habit that would, no doubt, be beneficial to have while Andrew and I were off galavanting the globe. Thus far, we have accomplished the minimum in regards to preparations. We were fortunate enough to get backpacks. Granted, it took us four stops between Houston and Austin to fix a "zipper" issue on my pack, but nonetheless we got them and they are every-so-nicely decorating the floor of our living-room right now. Aside from packs, we've managed to get some quick drying towels and some retro-Chinese cartoon passport covers from JoyToys in Austin. Perhaps the biggest accomplishment so far is the change in our thinking. I can't speak for Andrew, but I know that everything I pick up in any store has to pass a two-question test: 1. Am I really going to want to take this with me for a year? and 2. If so, how much does it weigh exactly?.
I've become much more aware of my pack-rat tendencies as I've cleaned up the house and trashed some "invaluables" for Andrew's big move-in (yes, he has officially moved in!). As we will essentially be living the hobo-lifestyle (maybe a slight exaggeration), I won't be buying that extra oh-so-cute t-shirt that was 20% off the original price! (Sometimes, I'm such a girl...)
But on a serious note, this trip has been a lifetime dream for me and I'm incredibly excited and grateful that Andrew is adventurous and is as loving as he is. As we discussed when we first started out on this path of togetherness...I'm going and nothing is changing my mind....I'm just happy (and relieved) that I will have the opportunity to create and share memories with him by my side. What a way to start out life together! So...yes...despite the fact that every family member and friend will likely read this, Thank you Andrew for taking a chance with me and helping me to live my dreams. I love you!
