October 13th, back in Delaware! We rolled in around 9:15PM after a roller coaster month in New York. To say the least, I am just about fully emotionally spent. While celebrating Kenny and Kirsten's wedding, we learned the somber news that one of the most amazing people I've ever known, my Grandmother, had passed away.
First off, Grandma Z, I'll miss you every day. You have done so much to make an amazing family, and I am honored to be a part of it. From your sister, Aunt Anna, her 11 children (all of whom showed up to your funeral) to Grandpa, your five children, twelve grandchildren, and one great-grandson, we all know that you are smiling down at us now, and resting happy. It's the little reminders that you're sending us that makes us know for sure. Like the piece of beach glass that my mom got while walking yesterday morning, or the license plate on a passing car today that read 'EGRACE1.' We know that you're at peace, but you are still missed by all. I love you!
I want to again say congrats to Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Hocker, married October 9, 2010 at the Pruyn House in Latham, NY. What an amazing wedding! My favorite part had to be the unique melody that came from Boots 'N Shorts playing Bluegrass music throughout the wedding. Kirsten was beautiful in her dress, the food was delicious (especially Mr. Heeder's pies!) and the day just came together perfectly.
What added to this emotional roller coaster was knowing that after this visit, I wouldn't be seeing my brothers, Tom and Ken, and their wives, Kate and Kirsten, for over a year! It was tough enough waiting five months before I got to meet little 'Hansicle', as Kenny calls him, but now he'll be a year and a half old when I see him again! The best coping mechanism that I've come up with to this point is knowing that when we return, life will again be settling in the Northeast, so they're only a short drive away at the least. I'll miss you guys, and expect many Skype calls in the wee hours of the morn and night.
So if anyone has been trolling our site lately, you'll notice a countdown on the front page. Yeah, as I write this blog, it says 13 days, 23 hours, 45 minutes. That's counting down until the day we leave for Fiji. Two weeks. We leave Delaware for Las Vegas three days prior, so really we have a week and a half to get all the loose ends tied up. Yikes! We still have a bit of a list of things we need/want to do before departure, but like we've been saying, if the clock runs out, it ain't gettin' done! It's going to be busy before we leave, but the phone's still on until 10/28 at 4PM, at which time I will be retiring my number for the next 12 months. Feel free to call, because I'll be looking for someone to calm these nerves!
